Transport and Roads
Transportation within the property is not provided and we suggest renting a rugged rental car such as a Jeep or 4x4 so that you can access all that we have to offer including two gorgeous protected beaches for swimming, as well as the horse stables, tennis court, lagoon, and turtle hatchery. A number of rental companies can arrange to have the car delivered directly to Cuixmala and pick it up at the end of your stay.
Our guests are sometimes surprised to discover that few of the roads at Cuixmala are paved and that the access roads to our beaches are quite rugged. Because most of Cuixmala is a nature reserve, the government restricts what can be built. By law we cannot construct new roads or pave the old dirt roads that were in place at the time the reserve came into being. So we urge you to drive carefully over our dirt roads and slowly over the paved ones, always watching for pedestrians, bikers, and animals.
Weather and Seasons
Mexico’s Costa Alegre has two well-defined seasons: a dry season from November to June and a rainy season from July to October. Both seasons offer unique experiences and neither is entirely wet nor entirely dry. During the dry season, the days start off cool with daytime temperatures reaching between 75°F and 85°F and evening temperatures averaging around 65°F. Sunshine is abundant and humidity is low. The rainy season brings afternoon showers and warmer temperatures, with daytime highs reaching between 85°F and 90°F and evenings averaging 75°F.
What to Pack
Beachwear and sportswear for exploring the property on horseback, mountain bike, or kayak. Our beaches are all equipped with traditional Mexican shade structures called palapas but a sun hat and sunscreen are highly recommended for time spent out in the sun. Elegant dinner service calls for boho beach style; linen trousers, espadrilles, and vibrant colors. Feel free to pack light as our full service laundry will ensure that you have fresh clothes each day you’re here.
